Bloomington Transportation Options for People

About B-TOP

Bloomington Transportation Options for People (B-TOP) is a non-profit, 501(c)3 organization working to bring about a more sustainable culture, better urban form and enhanced quality-of-life to people in the Bloomington area by increasing use, funding and development of alternatives to auto transport.

We are a project of the Center for Sustainable Living.

We are a group of concerned citizens who meet monthly to discuss ways to make Bloomington a more safe and friendly place for people who do not use cars as their sole means of personal transportation. In pursuit of this goal, we have:

  • Invited over a dozen transportation experts to speak in Bloomington (free for attendees), covering topics from urban form to bus system implementation to bicycle-safe roadways.
  • Conducted studies of commonly misunderstood Bloomington traffic phenomena (such as parking and congestion) to educate our elected representatives.
  • Raised awareness by marching in the 4th of July parade with a people-powered float.
  • Worked with groups such as Health by Design, the Active Aging Coalition, and Earth Care to promote awareness of alternatives to the car.
  • Lobbied local and state politicians for saner transportation design

Our organization's formal decision making process is governed by the B-TOP bylaws.
